From: planet@astro.rug.nl (Penny Sackett) Subject: MACHO 98-BLG-42 anomaly Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 01:59:38 +0200 () Dear Colleagues: The I-band brightness of the MACHO event, 98-BLG-42, which is being monitored by the PLANET group, has declined by 1.7mag during the last six hours. This decline followed a steady rise in brightness by 1.3mag in the three days following the MACHO alert on August 22. This behaviour appears to be the result of a caustic crossing by a resolved source at some time between JD 2451050.5 and 2451051.2. You are encouraged to make further observations to monitor subsequent developments in the light curve.
