From planet@astro.rug.nl Tue Jul 11 19:41:14 MET 2000 Subject: PLANET Team Alert for EROS-20000-BUL-05 --------------------------------------------- PLANET TEAM ANOMALY ALERT FOR EROS BLG-2000-5 --------------------------------------------- The PLANET collaboration has been performing intense photometric monitoring of the multiple-lens microlensing event EROS BLG-2000-5 for several weeks. This event was discovered by the EROS team and first noted to be anomalous by the MPS team. We reported that the event executed a fold caustic about a month ago at Heliocentric Julian Date (HJD) = 2,451,705.000 +/- 0.002 (see earlier PLANET team alert and caustic characterization). Since then, we have reported the rise to its second caustic crossing, and updated predictions for the timing of the end of the second caustic crossing, when the trailing limb of the K giant source star exits over the caustic (see http://www.astro.rug.nl/~planet/EB2K005.html). Since the dramatic drop in the apparent brightness of source signaling the end of the second crossing, the light curve has risen steadily. Here we report that the degree and curvature of this rise suggests that the source is approaching and may soon cross a cusp in the caustic structure within the next 48 hours. Modeling near a cusp structure is time-consuming; we currently have no definite prediction for the timing of the possible cusp crossing, but advise intense monitoring of this event. Event: EROS-2000-BUL-005 RA (J2000): 17:53:11.5 Dec (J2000): -30:55:35 PLANET continues to observe this event. Finding charts, previous alert information and updates can be found on the PLANET web site at http://www.astro.rug.nl/~planet. EROS information on this event can be found at the EROS alert web page at: http://www-dapnia.cea.fr/Spp/Experiences/EROS/alertes.html. ---------------------------------------------
